Interpreter/Navigator (full-time) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Catholic Charities is excited to announce a job opening in collaboration with the University of Iowa's Center for Human Rights and ALL Iowa (Afghan Legal League of Iowa). This position will be located within the Cedar Rapids office of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Dubuque. Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Dubuque is seeking to fill a new position, Interpreter/Navigator, for Operation Allies Welcome (OAW) Afghan clients served primarily by Catholic Charities and the ALL Iowa (Afghan Legal League of Iowa) collaboration. Catholic Charities is a subawardee project partner with the Afghan Legal League of Iowa (https://www.alliowa.org/), and in that capacity provides immigration legal services to eligible individuals from Afghanistan living in northeast Iowa.
This position will coordinate with in-house immigration attorneys at Catholic Charities to provide interpretation/translation services to Afghan clients served primarily by the Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services program. Bilingual fluency in one or both of the Afghan languages, Pashto or Dari, and English is required. This position will also provide direct navigation services and work closely with other social service agencies to leverage community resources for Afghan clients. Responsibilities include but are not limited to interpreting/translating during legal consultations and meetings; assisting immigration legal service staff in collecting necessary documents and information from clients regarding their immigration cases; coordinating direct assistance for clients if applicable, and tracking and reporting data related to the project. Qualified applicants should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
