This new community-led resettlement initiative enables everyday Americans to take on the responsibility of welcoming Afghan newcomers to their communities. Over 74,000 Afghans have been evacuated to the US since August 2021. Many of these individuals are currently at US military bases as they wait to be resettled into welcoming communities across the country. Nonprofit refugee resettlement agencies have done an amazing job resettling Afghan families, but they are maxed out. They need help from private citizens and groups who are interested in welcoming Afghan families into your community.
A minimum group of 5 individuals from any background is required to welcome and resettle an Afghan individual or family into a new community. As a sponsor circle, you will take on tasks like securing and furnishing housing, registering children in school, coordinating medical appointments, helping adults find employment, providing initial income support, helping individuals learn English, signing up for government benefits, etc.
